REEF FEST is a series of benefit concerts taking place in South Florida USA and beyond to promote awareness and raise money for coral conservation efforts through the power of live music. Started by Dr. Jim Hendee, a marine biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Reef Fest is an official project of IYOR and has been taking place since late 2007. Many musicians, fans and volunteers have contributed their efforts to Reef Fest - and the best is yet to come!
REEF FEST Music & Arts Festival is happening Saturday, November 15, 2008, from noon to 11 PM, at Jaco Pastorius Park in Oakland Park (Fort Lauderdale), Florida, USA. It will be an all-day outdoor music festival featuring 15 national and local acts performing blues, jazz, rock, folk and reggae music (artist line-up to be announced soon!), along with food, drink, arts and crafts vendors plus activities and exhibits to educate concert goers about the need to protect and preserve our coral reefs.
Other REEF FEST events are happening around the USA and the Caribbean: check out the REEF FEST website, reeffest.org, for more info! MySpace too: myspace.com/reeffest.
Proceeds from REEF FEST go to the Reef Fest Fund, administered by the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation, one of the fastest growing 501(c)3 non-profit conservation organizations in the world. The Reef Fest Fund is designed to support coral research and conservation in many areas throughout the world.
Those interested in participating as volunteers at an upcoming REEF FEST event or hosting a REEF FEST event in their own community can apply through reeffest.org.
