The world of art has always played a critical role in provoking thought and generating dialogue. It should be use to generate environmental awareness. Marine artist Troy Hotard shares this vision, and through his work, he hopes to raise awareness and educate the public about the beauty and fragile nature of the ocean's coral reef systems, and the sheer wonder of discovery through scuba diving. In addition of donating an original painting entitled "Living Color", he also kindly agreed to sponsor an IYOR online gallery, where original paintings or giclees (donate by other marine artists who join this initiativee) are for sale to raise money for the International Year of the Reef fund (More information about the fund).

Troy Hotard Studiowww.troyhotard.comAn artist from the age of three, Troy Hotard has been a practicing professional artist for over 25 years. In that time, he has produced numerous works, including portraits, advertisements, logos, and murals. These works have been done in various media ranging from graphite, oil paint, wood & metal, to mixed media and stained glass. Recently, Troy has concentrated on his main passion: Scuba Diving. Through this art, he hopes to raise awareness and educate the public about the beauty and fragile nature of the ocean's coral reef systems, and the sheer wonder of discovery through scuba diving. To him, the ocean represents the last frontier to be explored and protected. This frontier is much like the disappearing Western Frontier at the end of the 19th century. Similar to Buffalo Bill, who brought his WILD WEST SHOW to the "Easterners", who had never traveled to the west, so now, Troy Hotard is bringing a representation of this modern vanishing wilderness to the general public. It is Troy's hope that his art will raise awareness regarding the vulnerability of the world's reef systems as well as stressing the urgency of safeguarding the underwater world...which is crucial to our own survival.. Ronald Wedellwww.gentlemanspalette.comAbout Ronald Wedell: "I am an artist living in South Carolina, who after a 20 year hiatus, has recently reopened the doors to my art studio, the Gentleman's Palette. Throughout my career, I have produced numerous works including murals, portraits, advertisements, and architectural displays. These were done in various medias ranging from oils, mixed medias, pastels, and graphite. I now mainly work in acrylics and love to create new and expressive compositions where my focus has been exploring all of God's creations that we have been blessed with. Nature is just one of those blessing and I hope that thru my paintings I can portray the beauty of nature from marine life and animals to flora and fuana and draw awareness to these gorgeous gifts...inspiring each and everyone to conserve and preserve our world." |

Tanya Hayneswww.h2oscapes.comAs an undersea watercolor artist, Tanya Haynes has made it her life's work to educate the public about how fragile the ocean's ecosystem is and how each of us can make a contribution to help maintain and preserve it. A portion of her profits goes to not-for-profit organizations that do the same thing. She applauds the efforts of IYOR.Tanya's love for the marine world is reflected in her paintings. She believes an ocean reef is like a ballet; there are always a few creatures taking center stage, but everything else around them is alive, moving in a rhythmic, fluid orchestration. The acts and scenes change, but the plot remains constant. As a member of the CORAL and REEF organizations, both dedicated to protecting our oceans, Tanya's goal is to share her awareness of the fragile, delicate balance an ocean reef needs to sustain life.
