One Ocean Programme

The One Ocean Programme consists of ICRAN, UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and UNEP Coral Reef Unit (UNEP CRU), who are working in collaboration to undertake activities in support of IYOR 2008.

Activities

• The ICRAN IYOR 2008 calendar was sent out to 80 foundations, trusts, and others, to generate awareness amongst the donor community of IYOR 2008 and its activities.
• One Ocean will be distributing 150 calendars, and a wealth of other education and awareness materials from the IYOR UK stand at the London International Dive Show (LIDS), on the 8/9 March. We are joining Coral Cay Conservation and Blue Ventures in promoting IYOR 2008, increasing awareness and encouraging divers to become custodians of coral reefs.
• The first school talk took place in December at Sharnbrook school to approximately 40 16-18 year olds. So far, interest has been shown from schools in Oxford, Newbury and London for IYOR school assembly's and classroom sessions, this activity will continue to be developed through the year.
• The IYOR 2008 interactive display in the UNEP-WCMC foyer is drawing a lot of attention, showcasing materials from global efforts as they become available.
• ICRAN assisted in the development of the "About Coral Reefs"' section on the IYOR website
• The UNEP Coral Reef Unit helped to organise the IYOR side event at the UNEP Regional Seas meeting in Jeddah
• The proposal for the translation of the cartoon colouring book into Indonesian has been submitted, and is to be co-financed by UNEP CRU
• Awareness activities are taking place alongside various partners in South Asia through the EU project
• After the December meeting with the Emirates Diving Association (EDA), activities are moving forward with the facilitating of the translation of the poster and postcard into Arabic in time for Dive Middle East Exhibition (DMEX), March 12-15th
• An article on the Launch of IYOR 2008 has been submitted to EDA and will be published in the EDA March newsletter.
