An "IYOR2008 - coordination team" has been established and is composed of:

- Prof. Dr. Franz Brümmer, Marine Zoology, Univ. Stuttgart and president of the German divers Association (Verband Deutscher Sporttaucher)
- Dr. Götz-Bodo Reinicke, German Oceanographic Museum, Stralsund
- Prof. Dr. Gert Wörheide, Geobiology, Univ. Göttingen.
The IYOR Germany is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel agreed to act as the patron of IYOR 2008 Germany (more about Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel.)

Plan of actions
- In 2008:
- Official launch of IYOR in Germany: January 25, at the International Boat Show "boot2008" in Düsseldorf (19 to 27 January 2008). This is one of the largest watersports and yachting fairs and the largest diving fair in Europe.

- Coordination group (5 members, secretariat established at the : Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin)
