  • IYOR Synposium by Yasser Geneid

    A seminar was held on the 16th of April at the marine science department of the faculty of science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt to introduce the IYOR to the staff and students of the department. A 20 minutes presentation was made, followed by the projection of "Sustainable Reefs: A Gift for the Future", a film produced by Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society and Reef Check. A questions and answers session was held after the film between the participants and IYOR focal point in Egypt.

    The seminar was attended by vice dean of the faculty for environmental affairs, head of the department, staff and under and post graduates.

    A copy of the guidelines of GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES (Arabic and English version) was distributed during the seminar.

    We would like to thank Dr Wafaa Sallam, Assistant Profossor of marine biology. Her efforts in coordinating this seminar are highly appreciated.

  • September 2007: A workshop on "Coral reefs and associated ecosystems in the Red Sea, economic values and conservation" was held in Hurghada at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), in cooperation with IOI Egypt (International Ocean Institute).
    This workshop was attended by many stakeholders from the region (representatives from environment department from the region, from the diving industry, general public…). During the workshop, a lecture was given to introduce IYOR 2008 and plan some activities.
