A seminar was held on the 16th of April at the marine science department of the faculty of science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt to introduce the IYOR to the staff and students of the department. A 20 minutes presentation was made, followed by the projection of "Sustainable Reefs: A Gift for the Future", a film produced by Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society and Reef Check. A questions and answers session was held after the film between the participants and IYOR focal point in Egypt.
The seminar was attended by vice dean of the faculty for environmental affairs, head of the department, staff and under and post graduates.
A copy of the guidelines of GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES (Arabic and English version) was distributed during the seminar.
We would like to thank Dr Wafaa Sallam, Assistant Profossor of marine biology. Her efforts in coordinating this seminar are highly appreciated.
Extensively researched and endorsed by leading partners in conservation, these guidelines embrace the most commonly accepted "best practices" around the world. These simple leaflets provide essential advice to improve your coral reef expertise and give you general guidance on activities around coral reefs. But please, also look out for, and follow, local rules and regulations.
