International Year of the Reef 2008

The ICRI International Year of the Reef 2008 is a worldwide campaign to raise awareness about the value and importance of coral reefs and threats to their sustainability, and to motivate people to take action to protect them. All individuals, corporations, schools, governments, and organizations are welcome and actively encouraged to participate in IYOR 2008. [More]

IYOR U.S. Public Service Announcement - Every Act Counts - NOAA, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, UrbanArts Institute at Mass College of Art and other Marine and Ocean Conservation NGOs are supporting the production and distribution of a series of 30 second TV PSAs to educate the US public concerning ocean-coral reef and coastal environmental education. U.S. Messaging Campaign - NOAA's Coral Reef Conservation Program and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation have worked together to develop a united U.S. IYOR Messaging Campaign with the input from the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force Education and Outreach Working Group. 2 new action messages are now available and FREELY downloadable into print advertisements. IYOR at the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 9) - The ICRI secretarait will be hodling an ICRI-CBD side event on "Marine Biodiversity and the International Year of the Reef". An IYOR 2008 presentation will be also made at the CBD CEPA Fair.


World Ocean Day - In order to better make the connection between climate change and ocean health, this year the World Ocean Day is encouraging Partners to promote the theme "helping our climate / helping our ocean" with a special focus on coral reefs, to take advantage of International Year of the Reef (IYOR) 2008.
