<description>The International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) will be organized in oh Lanta to collect garbage. Participants will consist of volunteers from koh Lanta schools, local hotels and tour operators, local government and public. Several side event will be organized during the day (a litter recycling workshop, a beach detective workshop...). The winner of the &quot;Green fins&quot; photo contst will be display at the Lanta Community museum.</description>

<description>As part of the Kosrae Coral Reef Monitoring Project, Kosrae Village and Oceanearth will hold a 2 week coral monitoring session from September 27 – October 10, 2008. This is Kosrae's official annual coral monitoring program which follows a modified ReefCheck protocol. In addition to collecting essential data on coral reef health, this session will serve to highlight the Internationational Year of the Reef 2008. <description>In cooperation with REEF CHECK Europe, the Red Sea Environmental Centre (RSEC) in Dahab, South Sinai, initiated a reef monitoring programme with approval from the National Parks' authority (Nature Conservation Sector / Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency). The RSEC in Dahab has designed a reef-monitoring programme based on an extension of the standard Reef Check procedure. The aim of the extended Protocol is to provide more well defined data describing the status of coral reef health with respect to anthropogenic and natural impacts.</description>

Students prepare 40 minute workshops to present to their peers at the conference on a marine or coastal topic, relevant to their local area. This process involves students working with expert mentors many months prior to the event, and results in children who are motivated, capable public speakers, with self esteem and respect for others. Ultimately, this conference is about protecting and enhancing our marine and coastal environments, communities and industries through education and involvement of the next generation of leaders.</description>
